My name’s Ruth and I’m from the UK. I used the nickname ‘Web Career Girl’ when I first started out online, as I was simply a girl trying to learn how to make money on the ‘net.
Things were tough when I first came online in 2008, and I was amazed the first time I wrote an article and got the money in my PayPal account the very same day. I’d gone from deciding not to pursue my Master’s degree at the very last minute, and having no job to fall back on, to creating an income for myself.
Since then I’ve been a writer, editor, service provider, website developer, blogger, affiliate marketer, PLR provider and, most importantly, my own boss!
What I’m Working For
It wasn’t long after starting my online career that I realised I couldn’t go back to “normal” working life. I’d set something off inside myself, and it has opened up the doors to many goals I never knew I had.
Number one, I want to make a difference (no matter how small) and help people as best I can. There are many others who know a lot more than me, but I try to listen whenever someone gets in touch, and use the freedom of my online work to give me the time to pursue passions outside of the internet marketing world.
I know I may miss out on certain money-making opportunities because of my views, but that’s ok. I’m never going to sell a system that I don’t personally live by, I’m not going to promote unethical products, and I’m not going to earn money for money’s sake.
I know how much I need to live a happy life, and that doesn’t mean being a millionnaire or owning an expensive car. It was partly for this reason that I decided to stop reporting monthly earnings: we all have different levels we want to reach. I am reaching mine and I am happy.
Working online has opened me up to the reality of what was once a dream: to take an extended trip (starting in Southeast Asia) and earn money from the road. I’ve no doubt that the life of a “digital nomad” has its ups and downs, but I know that it’ll teach me so much.
This website, more than anything, is about building connections. Working online can be a lonely business at times, but to know there are others like me out there makes a huge difference
