It’s been a while since I posted, and I’m not officially starting work again until Monday, but I’ve updated my August earnings on the earnings page.
Although I had good intentions, I didn’t do as much as I had planned in August. Client work and moving house took a lot of my time, but I did release a Halloween PLR article pack which did well (I don’t include this in my monthly earnings).
I’m looking forward to getting going in September as I’m going to spend a lot more time on my sites and a lot less on client work (more about that below).
My Passive Income Progression
As I’ve been getting organized, I’ve been laying out my earnings each month and watching how they’ve increased. Here’s a look at how my passive income has progressed since April:
- April – Total = $278.94 | Daily =$9.29
- May – Total = $281.73 | Daily = $9.09
- June – Total = $323.71 | Daily = $10.79
- July – Total = $381.84 | Daily = $12.32
- August – Total = $405.06 | Daily = $13.07
Although the monthly increase is small, it still looks good. But I am a little worried as I got a couple of affiliate commissions in July and August that were more of a “one off” (Hostgator affiliate program payments etc) and that probably won’t continue. My Adsense earnings are increasing a little every month which is great to see.
My goal for August is $450. This will be difficult, given my trend in monthly earning increases as well as the fact that the last couple of months included those unexpected commissions. But why set a goal if it’s not a little difficult to achieve?
Thinking Carefully About My Future Plans
Like I said in my last post, I’ve taken two weeks off and have used some of the time (a lot of it was taken up by cleaning and moving!) to consider my business carefully, and the direction I want to take. Although I originally said I was ramping up my passive income efforts in May, I’m going to do it again – only this time I’ll be a lot more focused.
I’ve looked at all the different elements of my business and decided to cut a few out. The main focus will then be my niche websites (specifically, selling Amazon products), and selling PLR article packs (the benefit of these is that they have the potential to turn into a good passive income stream).
I’ve set out a spreadsheet detailing how much I’ll need to earn each month. The amount of client work I take on will depend on how close I am to my passive income goals (I know it never works out as you expect, but at least it gives me a good idea of what I need to achieve.) I really want to see a noticeable increase in time for Christmas.

Your progress looks good! Figuring each month of IM is a learning experience, I’m sure you’ll be able to continue to increase your earnings a lot.

Hey Ruth, glad to see you back (early!). The fact that things are increasing is important and it keeps going. I tend to find I take 2 steps forward and 1 back…. I have had my 2 steps and expecting a September back step! But I know ultimately I am moving forward and will do the most i can to stop any step backs being too drastic.

Hey Ruth,
Good to see that your earnings are on the increase. Even if your earnings increase by £1 per day, thats still like £30 per month, thats my T-Mobile phone bill paid off. Now just imagine if 2 or 3 sites can acheive that? All of a sudden your earnings start to increase to an additional £90 per month.
Are you focussing your efforts just on AdSense or a variety of things?
All the best

It all adds up! I am not just focusing on Adsense, at the moment my main focus is going to be Amazon so I’m really hoping that can increase before Christmas.
Glad to see you back, Ruth! You have been missed. These are nice earnings results. I wish you the best in September. It is good to stretch your goals provided you don’t become discouraged. I am sure that you won’t end up that way but I know that some people will do that. Knowing your personality is important when setting goals and setting plans.

I know what you mean, I go through phases of getting discouraged (especially when I look at others making much more), but ultimately at least things are on the up, no matter how slowly.
Great to see you back! Looking forward to watching how you increase next months!

The only flaw in your thinking is calling out small increases – who cares? It’s an increase!

You’re on the up and up, m’lady. Think where you’re gonna be a year from now. I predict you’ll only be working for clients if you feel like it, not because you have to
Good luck this month.

Hi Ruth – good to see you back. I need to work out my figures for August but I know I’m still in the red as my expenditure exceeds income so I really don’t want to look how much by!

Good increase, and I know what you mean about looking at others’ pay and thinking how discouraging it can be. I’m in the same mindset, needed a good swift kick from Carrie to get over it.
It helps to have IM friends, I was encouraged just reading the comments!
Now, about that Clare chick…

James – Lol, so true. Carrie gives good kicks – there are just too many variables in this crazy IM universe we inhabit to expect things to take an exact route like the courses may teach us. My little break has helped me SO much and I feel more determined than ever (about to post on that one). I love your duel with Clare – since I want to focus on Amazon I’ll say I’m very, very intrigued.
I think you’re doing great! Your blog definitely reminds me of mine a bit cuz we’re both on a journey to making money online. I must commend you for including your earnings on you blog.. just like I do. The reason is because so many times I read blogs where people try to tell others how to make money, but you wonder to yourself, “how much are they really making themselves!”.
So do not give up. I know better than anyone that things tend to get tough sometimes .. especially when it comes to time, but hang in there and try as best as you can to keep working on your sites because I think you’re doing great!
Feel free to stop by my blog as well to see how I’m doing!

Trini – Thanks for your comment and for the encouragement. It looks like you are doing well too – I will definitely keep up with your progress too.
It’s always inspiring to read about the success of others. I always try to be of the mindset that success has no “size” (i.e. big or small). Far to often people fall into the trap of “it’s always greener on the other side.” So long as you learn from your experience you are on the right path. Pre-grats on your September success and future Amazon domination

you seem like you are doing a great job I still trying to figure the whole thing out and filter out the crap I get all the time from internet gurus with the next big thing ….
Twitter: webcareergirl
says:
Gene – Yeah I am getting a bit tired of hearing about “the next big thing”. It’s not that they all don’t work, but you have to be very selective to make sure you actually take realistic action.
Hope your september earnings reach your earnings! I wish I had the dedication to make a really great authority site. I have one that has 100 posts on it and actually outranks some of the main product suppliers in its broader niche but I haven’t written a new post for it in at least 6 months and the site could be so much more than it already is!
