Like I have said a few times recently, I’ve been writing longer articles and review posts in the hope that they’ll be more search engine friendly and attract visitors for more long tail keywords. The reviews are 1,000+ words, and include a lot of LSI keywords that I researched through various keyword tools. They also contain images and Amazon affiliate links within the text. These reviews are genuinely useful – they took a while to research!
Anyway, now I’ve written five of these long pages, three on one site, two on another, I decided I’m going to submit some articles to backlink the individual pages. This was part of my strategy before, except I only did it for random blog posts, whereas this feels a little more planned to me.
Today I wrote three Ezine Articles, to cover links to all five of those pages (plus one extra link since it’s two per article). And now I’m going to submit them through Unique Article Wizard, but only at a slow pace of say 10 per day, to keep the links building steadily. This will keep the links building even though I may not have lots of time to work on them (I have got a lot more client work to do this week).
Anyway, I’ll try to stay updated here to keep myself accountable and moving forward!

It’s good to have a plan of action so you can test results better.
I am a bit stuck as to how I want to build backlinks these days. I want authority links and need to work out how to get more of them!!

Forest – I struggle too because, honestly, a lot of the mass backlinking techniques that everyone does, I’m just not sure about. I have been searching for blogs that might accept guest blog posts, as I thought those might be a better way to drive traffic, but I can’t find any decent ones except article directories! Probably because the niche is extremely product focused.
I have done a few guest posts here and there and also joined a group of other personal finance bloggers and that has helped spread links around for us all.
Been featured a few times on some of the big blogs too… Need some more of that!

Forest – Do you think it’s worth doing guest blog posts when your topic is X product from Amazon. Say it’s a tumble drier, would it be worth posting on a home cleaning tips site or something like that? I’m finding it hard to find blogs.
I would definitely try and do related posts. Google likes related links.
So if it was a tumbledryer site you could do a guest post on a blog about home cleaning tips site about say “10 ways to reduce your laundry loads” or something like that (you know what I mean).
If you have anything that relates to frugal living in any way then you can post on my site if you want (only pr2 but good standing with Google in general).

Forest – Think I’m gonna try that, see if I can find any blogs in the same field as my product sites today. If I come up with some frugal topics I’ll definitely come to you!
Ruth,
It sounds like you have a really good plan laid out. I also hope to be working on links this month and getting more done than last month. I feel like I have already done more but plan to keep going. Good luck with the move. You will be in my thoughts during your transition.

Kidgas – Thanks for the nice thoughts. Also good luck with your plans this month!
Ruth,
I’ve dropped by recently but both of us have taken our hiatus and time is short.
Backlinks is a process that I want to simplify. I have actually had success with natural backlinks over the years but spending time guest posting and article marketing is certainly worth it.
Commenting also seems to draw interesting conversations and traffic.
I’m with Forest…a bit unsure of how I want to pursue. I look forward to seeing your process and results – an action plan is often the best way to go and I know you execute them well.

Stephen – Hopefully I will see more about which work best. Although I’ve been at it for ages and tried lots of backlinking methods, I still feel like I do it a bit haphazardly. Need to keep track more of what works and what doesn’t.
This whole article per article thing is new to me, but seems to be working nicely for you.

Just found your blog from Wanda and Paula’s site from your comment. Now that Google has penalized article directories, has this affected your traffic?

Amy – Thanks for visiting! No I haven’t noticed things going badly for my sites. I have been mainly using Build My Rank lately and I also find that the higher quality articles on the blogs are helping me. But I haven’t been 100% focused on my niche sites later, so when I get back into it I may have more insight.
