This post speaks volumes. I know I can easily throw away an hour or or an hour there and get nothing accomplished. I like to get a notepad file started first thing in the morning and I write down all the tasks I need to get done through the day. I find it helps and if I do not finish them, I roll them over to the next day's start of a notepad file. lol

Great post Ruth! I myself have to write everything out as I am a regimented person, I suppose ;-)

Writing everything out and marking it off as I complete it helps me to feel a sense of accomplishment and pushes me forward to the next task. Just found out I will probably have to go back to traditional work, but that won't stop me from working on my niche blogs, flipping niche blogs, or working on different projects....so my best friend will be my task list!!

Dear Ruth,

we found this to be a really insightful blog post.

It has often been said that procrastination is a sign of deep unconscious self-doubt. However, the only way to create unshakable self-confidence and self-belief is to take action and keep persisting. Success is the biggest cure for proCrAsTinatION! However success can only be achieved by taking ACTION!

At the end of the day, there is nothing anyone can say, do, or sell to you to make you take action--so "Just Do It" (Thanks to Nike for one of the best motivational slogans in the world).

Best wishes

Ruth...I think you hit the nail on the head when you said:
But we all work in different ways, and we’re all working towards different ends – it takes time to realise what works for you specifically.
I'm an exceptionally detail oriented & creative introvert. When I set too many goals the specific tasks add up fast. I therefore take the approach of an "endgame" - a determined vision. I break my time into two day components, writing days and action days. I make sure that each day I do something/anything that achieves those goals. That way each day has moved me one step forward. The rest is gravy.

I'm still working on eliminating all those extras little over commitments but there are no more backward steps. Life and goals are always a work in progress. Thanks for sharing your thoughts...especially the underlying one to find a system that works BEST for you.

Good for you, Ruth. I am glad that you have found a way to keep on track. I tend to just mentally list what I would like to accomplish each day. Since I am quite busy with other obligations and can't always devote myself to writing, I tend to move along in a somewhat haphazardly fashion. It is OK with me to work this way since I don't rely on writing for survival.

Cool idea. This reminds me: A few years ago, I had a habit of sitting down every night before going to bed and running my entire day through my mind, like an internal movie. It's quite difficult to do at first, but you get used to it and I think it has that same effect: It holds you accountable for your actions.
No idea why I stopped doing this. I should start again.

Ruth -

Thanks for a great post. The challenge of the home worker - to find the motivation and accountability to achieve. I like your approach a lot - it also gives a nice way of looking back and feeling a sense of progress. I wrote a blog about creating a perfect day that shared some similar ideas - planning the day in advance and self-auditing. Ultimately there are many ways to do this, however I think that the key for me is to understand the longer term vision. Knowing why I'm doing something today helps to keep me moving forward.
