I’ve decided I really need to kickstart my marketing efforts. As I mentioned at the end of last week, I’ve been writing a lot of content for my blogs.I have about 15 blogs that I’m actively working on adding content to at the moment, and all of these are about two months old or less. The only marketing I’ve done for them is submitting the RSS feed and then maybe an Ezine Article and a UAW submission. This is because I wanted to focus on making sure they all had at least 20 posts to start (so much writing to do!)
But simply putting up new posts doesn’t really increase earnings. It’s not that I think new content is a waste of time, most certainly not! But when it’s new, it needs a push to make sure it starts getting found in the search engines. To start with, I’m going to use article marketing to do this.
Testing With One Site
With one of my sites that was built in April I’ve been getting traffic every day but not much. So I’ve decided to try and give it a boost by writing 10 unique articles. I got some good PLR and rewrote all 10 articles today, and included keywords, as a starting point. This is what I’ll do with each of these 10 articles:
- Submit each to Ezine Articles. Each one will link to different blog posts on the site.
- Then I’ll spin them all to a high level of uniqueness using Magic Article Rewriter (making sure they’re all good quality and make perfect sense!) This will take some time, as I want to make them unique enough that I can use them in quite a few different places.
- I’ll submit these spun versions of the 10 articles to Unique Article Wizard, and eventually to sites like HubPages, InfoBarrel, Squidoo and Xomba (and maybe some other article directories like GoArticles and ArticleBot).
Like I said, I’ve already done the first version of these. I don’t know about when is the best time to submit to Ezine Articles, but I’ve decided to just space them out and submit them on various days whenever I think of it. Since each article will include links to different blog posts, I’m not too worried about submitting too many articles to the same link.
So I’ll see how all of this affects (a) the ranking of my site (b) the number of backlinks showing and (c) any direct traffic from the article sites. I’m trying to use longtail keywords that maybe have less searches in the hopes that they will rank without me having to backlink the articles themselves.
The Results
I’ve got no idea what the results of this will be – it’s just a test. I haven’t even made any sales of the product this particular site is promoting, so I don’t even know how well it converts, because I haven’t had enough visitors yet. But hopefully I’ll know soon whether this product does convert or not. It’ll also give me some more ideas about marketing my future sites.

I like what you’re doing. There does come a time when the rubber has to meet the road.
What’s more, you get the difference between “original” content and “unique” content. Most people don’t get this. Frankly, there is a hardly any “original” content on the web. Most of it’s rehashed. Not saying this is good or bad, it’s just what it is.

Dave – Yeah you’re definitely right there – plenty of technically “unique content” around but not so much original. I’m really hoping my websites themselves will be more original but I must confess “uniqueness” is the top aim of my article marketing.
Hi Ruth,
my initial impression of eZine submissions is that it doesn’t really matter too much on the timing. They generally seem to get a few initial views and then some time later you start to see them being re-published (hopefully with your links still intact!).
Looking forward to hearing how you get on!

Des – Yeah it does seem to be that way with Ezine. Plus I suppose we have no control over when they approve them anyway!
I also am impressed with the plan that you are pursuing. It sure seems like it takes an awful lot of work and is really a full-time job. The more I learn, the more I realize that I know less and less. It can be overwhelming at times.

Kidgas – Yeah it certainly does take real work. But the payoff (when it finally comes) will be worth it!
This is a really interesting post. I have been following your progress in the event that I might try a few blogs (other than my writing one) of my own. Thanks for sharing so much useful information.

I love your cute avatar by the way!
Way to go Ruth!
I actually decided to just focus on one website at a time for a block of 2 months (Mon-Thursday) and then on Friday’s spend that time giving some TLC to the other websites I own that I’ve yet to sell off.
This way, I can still work on my authority website and also make sure my other websites are receiving fresh content.
I’m anxious to see your results, which I know will come in due time.

Yolanda – I love your timetable (I saw that on your blog yesterday). Unfortunately I can’t do that right now as I need to give everything a kick start. But I definitely think that’s the way to go. Really enjoying your progress diary blog by the way.
Thanks Ruth! It’s the only way I can actually stay focused and keep from losing my mind over what I forgot to backlink, bookmark, or create an RSS feed for.
…gurus sure don’t tell you the truth behind making money online do they?!? It really is hard work! Who would have thought?!?
Good luck Ruth, with 15 sites I am sure some will bomb and some will work like magic.
I am on a break to Sweden for 2 weeks from next week and really wanted to push my site while I was away… Sadly my clients all popped up and my time for my own sites is destroyed

Forest – Thanks! Shame about your client work, but I guess it’s still all good to have lots of client work! Plus your sites seem to be doing really well regardless
It’s nice to hear that you are using PLR to rewrite even though you are a writer. I need to try and do more of that as I find rewriting much easier than writing original articles.
Good luck, sounds like a good plan.

Carrie – Yeah it definitely helps. As long as I can find some decent PLR I will definitely use it.
