Finding the Balance Between New Content and Marketing

If this new Google update (you’ve probably seen people talking about this everywhere, so I won’t go into detail now) has taught me anything it’s that I’m on the right track trying to get lots of content on all of my sites. It’s not easy, and I will admit I do feel nervous about my efforts paying off, but the key is to keep going and keep building my sites anyway.

But I do also need to find a balance between creating new content – which is very time consuming – and marketing those sites. I really want to get started with article marketing to try and give a boost in traffic to my new websites while they still find their real place in Google.

My plan is to work on content and marketing one after the other, at least every other day. So one day I might write 10 new blog posts, the next I might submit 5 article marketing articles. I’d wanted to focus on marketing 100% but I can’t do this right now – I still have sites that need more blog posts scheduled.

So far I haven’t really seen any increase in earnings as a result of my new sites, but that’s to be expected. I’m really hoping that now I’m going to start marketing things will start to move forward (despite the fact my Adsense has been pretty low these last few days).

Tomorrow I’m taking my “holiday” break of three days. I’ll work on Friday but then I’m going to London for the weekend. So these efforts are really going to start on Monday (and you won’t hear much from me ’til then). I’ll let you know how it goes!

Enjoy the time off! Are you using any automated tools for submitting articles?

Mike – Thanks! Sorry for the late reply. Yes I use Unique Article Wizard and sometimes ArticleBot by Incansoft. But I also do it manually too, I especially like using Ezine Articles and Go Articles.

  2. Writing without marketing is pointless (unless you write through Constant Content). Marketing without writing is equally impossible. I like the idea of switching back and forth. Dedicating whole days to building links is going to really pay off.

JadeDragon- Yeah, I really need to market otherwise my articles could just sit there never getting found! Of course I do use SEO and some domains rank well with less marketing, but with those that don’t the marketing is very necessary!

  3. Hi Ruth,
I think that sounds like a good plan to do a rotation of the sites you are writing promotional articles for. It should provide a framework to help discipline, but will stop you from getting bored writing about similar subjects all the time for just one site.

Enjoy your short break by the way!

  4. Just make sure that you keep promoting your site over time. It’s really easy to take a break and allow it to flounder. Your customers will expect you tom come back, so if you skip out on them too long, you might lose them.

The earnings will come, but it will take time.

Enjoy your time off. It certainly sounds like a good plan to alternate new content and marketing. I have not done enough linking or marketing myself (though I don’t have any niche sites) but have spent more time writing. I have never been much of a salesperson so it is psychologically difficult. Nevertheless, it is a vital step that I will have to work on. Good luck to you as you try to balance the two tasks.

Kidgas – I am definitely not a salesperson either. Some people naturally are, but my idea of marketing is simply to produce useful articles that will make people want to read more, rather than selling any products directly. Hopefully it’ll pay off!

  6. Hey Ruth,

That’s awesome to hear. You are really doing great job. Keep it up Ruth.

    Hey Ruth,

It will come, it will…. My adsense has been over $50 a day every day this month and I think it all links back to content and marketing efforts started 2 months ago…. It’s always a knock on effect.

Have a nice break… I am going away for 2 weeks soon…. YIKES!

Forest – That’s great to hear, and good inspiration for when things are slow going. I do get the feeling it won’t pay off for a couple of months at least, which is why keeping that motivation up is so important!

  9. I’m about to enter the same area of sorts.

With the one blog it’s easy. I write every 2-3 days with the promotion in between.

With the blog network going into effect, I’ll have to come up with a real good plan; we’re talkin’ 5 blogs to start with.

      • Well they will and won’t, right away.

All the blog posts from all the blogs will be promoted at exactly the same time through the same newsletter…one problem though, is getting busy people to read/comment on all or even close to all each time.

  10. Ruth, have a good time in London, I was there in April when volcano ash stopped airlines. Anyways my sites traffic too was slowed down due to new google update. Oh well, just keep pushing content out there.
