The Internet means that information is available on almost every topic you can think of. When it comes to making a web career, this is even more true.
At every turn you will find people looking to give you advice about how to make money this way, how to make money that way. Not all of it is genuine, but much of it comes from those who have already done it and have the profits to prove it. If it worked for them, then surely it can work for us?
Getting Overwhelmed
Whilst it’s true that we can earn money online, make blogging money, become successful affiliate marketers, fulfil our writing dreams and so on, it’s going to take time. Nothing happens overnight, and nothing happens if you only do it half-heartedly.
Even as an online writer there are so many avenues I could take for my web career:
- Writing copy for individual websites
- Providing article marketing content
- Monetizing my own blog
- Creating products to sell e.g. eBooks
I am learning about each and every one of those methods, and more! But am I really getting anywhere?
Time to Stop and Slow Down
It has only taken me a few weeks to realise that I’ve been taking on too much. I’ve decided now to focus on one or two plans at a time, rather than attempting to be able to do everything successfully. Why? Because I just can’t do everything successfully all at the same time.
It’s almost as if I think I’m missing out on a great opportunity or idea, but if I focus on them at all then I won’t make a penny off any of them. I’m going to nurture each project before finding new ones. And recognising this fact, as well as learning from my mistakes, takes me one step closer towards my ideal web career.
How do you deal with the problem of over-stretching yourself, or getting excited by so many ideas?

I tend to do this all the time. I’ll take on one project and love reading/reasearching how to go about it but then I’ll find even more fantastic ideas and before you know it, I’ve read all day and hardly written a thing. I’ve made myself a strict must-stick-to schedule this month to prevent goofing off at the computer (too much).
