July Update and Earnings

I do say this every month, but I honestly can’t believe it’s August already. July has actually flown by. As you know from reading here, my July was very interrupted as I found out I had to move. I spent a lot of time going on viewings during my work day, and stressing about finding a place. The last week I finally had more time again to work on my own projects.

August will be disrupted too by the actual moving, in three weeks’ time, but I’m going to do my best to keep the disruption to a minimum . If I do have to go a little while without broadband while it switches to my new address, I’ll try and use that as a time to get a lot of content written.

July Earnings

I’ve just posted July’s earnings to my earnings page. It’s less than $10 more than what I earned in June. But I did earn more in Clickbank and in Adsense in July (my first £100+ GBP Adsense month!) so I think it shows that my sites are improving with age even if I’m not doing so well at marketing them!

In fact, here’s a look at how my Adsense earnings have increased over time (click on it to see it in full):

As you can see, they are slowly and steadily increasing. I had about 5 proper niche sites and month to month they’d get stronger and earn more through Adsense. It was in May when I started creating more niche sites to try and really improve things. None of my new niche sites have done fantastically, but hopefully they’ll go the same way as my older sites and just earn more and more as they get older.

Plans for August

I’ve decided I’m not going to try and keep creating more and more niche sites. I’m going to focus on sites I do have and try and make them even more of an authority. As well as the shorter blog posts I’ve been doing, I’m also adding product reviews and how to guides that are over 1,000 words. These are full of LSI keywords that I hope will get the traffic in for lots of random phrases.

I’m trying to do at least one of these long posts for my sites each day this week and then I’ll use articles to market the long posts, as well as the main URLs of my blogs as a whole. I’ll keep a close eye on how this plan is working out to make sure it’s worth continuing with.

If I can, I’m going to try and update here more often again to keep me on track.

  1. Hi Ruth,
the question of whether to keep expanding with mini-sites or just concentrate on a smaller number of projects has been on my mind too lately.

At the moment I’m leaning towards the latter. I suppose it spreads risk less, but it certainly seems a much more manageable strategy.

Encouraging AdSense results by the way!

Des – I always change my mind, probably the reason why I never focus enough! I think the benefit of mini sites is that you create loads and hopefully a portion will start earning straight away. But of mine that are earning, the earnings are so slim I decided I needed more content (because I don’t just put in the necessary effort when I spread my time too thin over so many sites).

Those are some good earnings and the fact that even in a month when you had very little time to do your online income work you still managed to make money is very good! Also well done on breaking through £100 from Adsense, despite being in the UK I am targetting $100 in a month! Also clickbank seems to be a very good revenue earning opportunity – I should definitely try it out!

Bristolboy – It looks like your Hubs are doing well so I hope you reach the $100 USD quickly! Lol it is kinda funny how we think in USD online, but I’m used to it now. Clickbank I think is good because the commissions are big, but I’ve found it harder to make the sales so I’m still unsure about it at the moment.

Congratulations on having some pretty consistent earnings and I hope the move goes well for you. I think your strategy is pretty sound and well though out. I find myself going back and forth between building and developing. From March through May this year, I didn’t build any new sites and just focused on getting those that I had ranking better, and it certainly paid off. Still, I also find probably only 20-30% of the sites I build seem to do well, and as I want to expand my earnings, so I’m in a building phase again right now.

Michelle – Thanks, it’s definitely good to know how you go about it. I am never sure what to do next so I’m really hoping I can just get into a solid routine and the earnings will start getting further above that $300 mark which I seem to have been stuck at!

    Ruth,
I agree with Michelle. It is good that your earnings have been consistent despite the disruption. Best of luck with the move and I hope the broadband isn’t down too long for you. I like your strategy of maximizing what you have and seeing how that works.

Hey Ruth, it’s cool to see your earnings edging up… It does take time :) .

My adsense dipped a bit the last few days but looks like it may be on the way back up (we can only hope).

Amazon was great for me in July which was a shock.

Forest – Thanks for the link. And glad to hear Amazon was doing well for you! I had a few really good months and it’s just gone downhill, but I still think Amazon is a great way to go.

  6. Seriously take advantage of that downtime.

I had a 48hr Internet outage. Between articles written and some organization, I’ve never gotten more done with Internet access. lol

I change my mind a lot on what I want to do also. It is a bad habit I got. Nice earnings though as I know you had a lot going on last month. Talk about July, this year is going by fast. I mean summer break went by so fast and now my little girl is about to back to school. Well congratulations on your earnings and hope they increase for you.

  8. Isn’t that the beauty of passive income? Even when life throws you curveballs you are still earning! My daughter was born in late June, so, needless to say, things have been slow moving here. I am thankful that I can continue to earn even when I can’t work like I want. Best of luck to you in August!
