I haven’t updated for a little while because things have been a bit crazy here. But things are still generally going good, I just need to work out how to keep my focus every day and make sure each day is productive.
Trying New Things
Since I made the decision to stop working on most of my niche sites, I have ended up trying new things that have distracted me from my authority sites! It’s almost impossible not too. This includes promoting through the launch of Tiffany Dow’s product “PLR ATM“. This is a guide that teaches you how to make money selling PLR articles (which I also do).
I didn’t do well at first, but sales have now been steadily coming in and have given me a nice end to September and beginning to October. I have learnt a lot in the process of promoting this product, and even did a screen capture voice over video that got a lot of attention! I was so scared to record my voice so I’m pleased I’ve taken this step – next up I am probably going to create some PLR “how-to” videos promoting my own PLR site (Net PLR).
Lastly, although not “new”, I’ve been building up my newsletters again – actually emailing people when I post to this blog, giving away a free PLR article each week, and trying to develop a relationship with everyone who signs up to my PLR list. I don’t know much about email marketing at all, but I am slowly learning!
A New Direction?
I have been wondering lately about my online business. I’m not technically thinking about taking a whole new direction, but I have been considering certain things. For example, my PLR business is really taking off and, more importantly, it has real potential to become a passive income stream for me.
Yet on this blog, I’m reporting earnings every month for my niche sites that aren’t doing so well. Sometimes I think posting earnings means I feel as though I have to keep up with everyone else, improve month after month and have something to show for my efforts. This, in turn, can actually cloud my judgement about what I should be doing.
The truth is that things, as a whole, have improved a lot in August, September and October (so far). It’s just that I don’t necessarily report it all here (and don’t really want to report every single bit of income I get either). So I’m reconsidering the way I report things with this blog.
What’s Next
I’ll still continue building my niche sites, but I am just thinking about what I report on this blog and what I don’t. I’ll probably decide by the end of the month.
In the meantime, next up for me is to continue riding the PLR wave. It’s doing well, why stop? I am going to get out as many new article packs as possible, and start following some of the promotional methods of PLR ATM to get my PLR site “out there” in front of more customers.
I’ve also got a lot of content ready for my Christmas authority site which I haven’t had a chance to post up yet – that has got to start next week. After all, it’s only a few months away now. Can you believe it?!

I know what you mean about feeling like you have to keep up with everyone re: earnings. I had a “good month” in September but most months…meh, I’m OK I s’pose.
You’ve really got me thinking about PLR though – great! Another golden goose chase! Lovely, that. Will you be reporting your PLR earnings?
Or just email me, would ya? That really is something that seems really, really enticing.
Or: stop talking about it. I’m too tempted. I’m glad that you’re hitting your ‘sweet spot’ and finding a rhythm in business, Ruth – you seem much happier with your decisions!
That’s infectious optimism. Here’s to hoping your income quadruples by year’s end, Ruth!

James – I don’t really want to report my PLR earnings etc for the reasons I mentioned above. I just don’t want to get into the mindset of constantly having to get better etc. because I feel it sways me from what I really need to do.
To give you an idea, though, I launched a WSO last week at the Warrior Forum on 15 Christmas toys and have earned $540 from that (with a $80 expense of listing and bumping the WSO once). My best WSO earned me close to $1000 for 21 articles but they generally average around a few hundred. I don’t want to rely on WSOs, though, so I’m working on building my PLR store and SEO etc. But I think it’s well worth it given the time it takes to set everything up. With PLR, the more PLR packs you have the more potential you end up having for attracting more customers, so that’s why I’m so keen to keep working on it.
Congratulations Ruth on your success with your PLR. You are such a good writer that it shouldn’t be any surprise. People are after quality these days and you provide that in abundance, in all the services you provide. Keep riding that PLR Christmas wave and you should be making top dollars in the lead up to Christmas, which will come in very handy for spending at this time of year:)

Linda – Thanks so much for the kind words
And you’re right, it’s definitely handy to get that spending money before Christmas
Good news on the PLR!
I completely understand feeling like you have to keep up with everyone. In some ways it is nice to post earnings to keep on track but sometimes it is just a downer compared to others.

Carrie – Yeah, on the one hand it does keep me accountable, but on the other I am really worried about not being good enough (especially since I lost my best Adsense site etc). Still not sure what to do!
You are doing great with your PLR site and working hard at it. I am finding it difficult to keep motivated and keep writing.
I know what you mean about the posting of income though, I was doing that for a little while with my niche sites but they just didn’t earn enough and so I felt I was no inspiration to others posting small amounts of income.
Anyway, I wish you lots of success with your PLR Business, you are doing great!

Sheryl – I find the motivation hard too. Sometimes a PLR pack that should take me a couple of hours takes a hole day, so I definitely need to improve that so I get better earnings to time ratio. Thanks for your encouragement!
Ride that PLR Wave, you are good at it so its more than worthwhile. Sorry I have not posted your article yet like I said I would….. I will be doing that this week.
Your authority sites need to grow over time anyway so I don’t think it’s harm to focus on things that are working, rent needs paying each month!

Wow Ruth!
That is some really great news you’ve got there. I’m happy to hear that the past 3 months kind of give you a new way to do things and that your PLR Biz is taking off!
I’m also signing up to your list
By the way Ruth, what do you use to have your opt-in show up at the end of each post and in a check box too in the comments section?

Widmaer – Yeah it’s great trying new things all the time. Thanks for signing up to my newsletter. I bought a plugin “subscribers magnet” for my opt in lists. I really decided I needed to build my lists more so thought this was a good investment, though I got it on special offer which I think has ended – my affiliate link is http://www.webcareergirl.com/go/subscribersmagnet if you’re interested.
I think its interesting that you post your earnings but I have to say that isn’t why I visit your site ruth. If you earned $100 dollars or $10,000 I would still come to your blog
. Even if you didn’t give specifics and just said “this month was a good month or bad month” everyone here would still support you. Actually now that I put some additional thought into this post, it may be beneficial to see what you replace these posts with in terms of content
One aspect of your personality that has been showing up in your posts lately is your ability to assess your current goals and practices and put into action the changes neccesary to improve your curren situation. This is a quality I admire very much. It takes a special kind of person to look in the mirror and not only admit their faults but work towards changing said faults. Perhaps fault is the wrong word but just merely realizing their is this opportunity for improvement.
This kind of remind me of the German psychologist Wolfgang Kohler. He would conduct studies using animals: cats, dogs, and monkeys. He would give these animals problems to solve involving a goal but what was special about the solution to these problems was that they did not benefit from trial and error. The solution to the problem required insight or what was referred to as an “aha moment.” Crazy stuff like monkey’s stacking crates, or putting two poles together in order to reach the food source. The point of this tangent is that there is more to IM then just trial and error, we have to gain insight from the paths that we choose, and that’s eactly what I see Ruth do time and again.
P.S. I wasn’t comparing you to a monkey ruth, it just happened to be that is what Kohler used in his experiments. After all he was bored out of his mind from being stuck in the canary islands during world war one lol.

Gabriel – Lol I did laugh at your PS. comment about comparing me to a monkey (or not) hehe it’s definitely interesting though. Thanks for your nice comment, you have helped me to see things a little better. I’m glad I have the ability to look at my faults just not sure about the ability to change even though I need to sometimes!
