Today is Day 1 and I’m Excited!

Today is Day 1 and I’m Excited!

I’m really buzzing right now. Just sold another website on Flippa, and have been thinking about my plan to step things up. I haven’t felt like this for a little while now, I’d be going through a down patch where working online was concerned, so I’m really glad that the spark has come back.

The reason I’m calling today “day 1″ is just because it’s the start of a new week and time for me to really put my plan into action. I wrote ten blog posts today, a little slower than usual but I made sure I didn’t write any less. They are health-based so I made sure to do some research using some reputable health sites to stick with my belief that my websites really do need to be useful.

I got distracted a lot today – I just got a new iPhone. I’d been wanting one for a while but I couldn’t justify the price in my head. Luckily I was offered a good loyalty discount when I threatened to leave my current network. It’s a great tool to have for an online career (in fact, I even installed an app that will keep track of my new “habit” of writing 10 blog posts a day) – but it also has the potential to trap you in work all day long, no matter where you might be. I guess you need to find a balance ;)

Back to the task at hand – I’m actually so excited and looking forward to the effort I’m going to be putting in. Now, I know in a few weeks when my earnings aren’t quite moving as fast as I want that I’m going to come back here questioning this. I just need to remember that the consistent action will eventually pay off.

And for now, I’m going to put this energy into getting as much done as possible!

I adore my Iphone! I got it last Christmas & wonder how I ever did without it.
What was the app you downloaded? Sounds like one I could use.

Cathy – I know I can easily see myself getting addicted! It’s just a simple app called habit factor. I am just ticking off my achievement each day.

So what was the app you installed? I’ve had mine almost 2 years now and while I love it, I’m not sure if I’ll be getting another. “The carrier” just doesn’t have good coverage in my area and I want to throw the phone through a wall everytime I use it because that’s how often it drops a call.

Mike – “Habit Factor” it’s just very simple but helps me visually tick my goal off each day. That’s really a shame about your coverage, I’m not surprised it makes you so frustrated!

I have yet to even attempt to sell any of my blogs – congrats on your success!

I keep changing my plans, too. I need to stubbornly stick to something. :)

  4. Don’t you just love that “buzz” when you get it?! When you’re in the “flow” and just everything seems to go right – you start writing an article and it feels effortless and exciting – you list a website for sale and it sells in no time flat. Fantastic stuff!

Awesome stuff Ruth….. Keep it up and maybe throw 50-100 words here a day to let us know how you are doing.

I am working on my frugal site today.

  6. You hit the magic link. The real truth is not in the buzz, but weeks or months later, when the initial buzz begins to fade…just keep going!

    Ruth,

Well, I am way behind you regarding the IPhone. I don’t have one and can’t see getting one in the short term future.

That being said, with more and more websites being optimized for mobile units, where do you see the future of niche websites with several pages of content? Are people going to do their surfing on these pocket devices or will they continue with their laptops? Even those are getting smaller now with the netbooks.

Wendell – You have a very good point. After having my phone for just a couple of days, I can already see how addictive it is to browse the net etc in that way! But the truth is it’s still quite restrictive e.g. it sucks up the battery fast and the screen isn’t large enough to feel comfortable (although I guess the iPad has a large screen).

I imagine people will move more and more to this kind of content but I still think that our words and niche sites will be valuable – it’s probably their layouts etc that will have to change I suppose rather than the content.

Congratulation on your blog sale and new phone! Blog flipping is definitely something I want to get into in the next few months, once I have the time…

Michelle – Flipping is definitely good for bringing in the cash, though it can be time consuming especially in the beginning. I mainly do it to keep cash coming in to fund my projects. Hopefully I’ll flip some more valuable earning sites in future, though.

  9. Dusty says:

I would love to learn how to flip sites. The only thing that scares me is that I have NO idea how to transfer the sites to the new owners.

Dusty – That’s how I felt too. Now a transfer comes second nature to me. Best advice I could give is to just do it! I did put it off for a while but it provides me a good chunk of income now (plus I enjoy the work – although of course I’d rather devote all my time to my own sites if possible).

Ruth, I have a question about flipping websites. The only ones I would want to get rid of are the ones that haven’t been profitable. Will people actually buy those? Do you have to price them really low?

Cathy – Yes I think you can flip them. Because the buyers on Flippa have all kinds of different methods and motives when it comes to websites. On the one hand you need to be realistic and price it right depending on the value, but on the other what doesn’t work for you might be useful to someone else for some reason. That’s what I have found when I see such a variety of sites there. Plus if you have unique content etc. that would be valuable to buyers and you can play up the factors like that. But of course sites with earnings do sell for more on Flippa so it can be more hit and miss if you don’t have earnings but if you look at what sells there you’ll see it’s perfectly possible.

    • Ad much as I hate too, I have to say here, ones trash is anothers treasure…I think it fits, no? ;)
