Web Career Girl Is Closing…

It’s been so long since I updated here so I think it’s the right time to let you know that I’m closing this blog down. However, I have not quit blogging at all. Keep reading to find out more…

What I’ve Been Up To For The Last 7 Months

I can’t believe it’s been more than 7 months since I posted! I last posted back in October. By that time I was really getting things moving on my plans to go to Asia and live the “location independent” lifestyle for a while. I was actually an emotional wreck at the time – I’d never travelled much before, never been to Asia, and didn’t know whether I was making the right choice. I guess that’s why the blog got neglected.

I’m pleased to say I’ve now been away for almost 5 months. Although I am working far, far less than I was before I left, I am covering all expenses – and a bit extra – for both me and my partner (who is now working with me), and things are going well! I spent the first 2 months in Thailand, then went over to Laos for a month, and am now back in Thailand until probably July. After that? Who knows!

Why The End For This Blog?

I mentioned that I was finding it difficult to fit blogging around everything else I had going on, and the same was true since I came away. I want to make the most out of everything and that means I don’t want to be chained to my computer 24/7. At first, I was terrible at fitting my work in, and I barely had any time to write the content for my PLR membership sites, let alone do anything else.

I am achieving much more of a balance now – especially since I’ve started outsourcing a lot of writing (spending a lot of money on it too!) So why now am I shutting this site down?

For the last few months, I’ve been thinking about it a lot. The direction of my business has changed drastically. All my affiliate and Adsense earnings dropped massively in the last couple of Google updates, and I have zero passion for almost all of my niche sites now. I have let most domains expire or just deleted the sites from my hosting account altogether.

I’ve come to realise that I much prefer to run a business than to coast through as I had been. I feel I am much better at running a business and writing than I am at trying to figure out SEO (after all these years, I still haven’t managed to). So running a business and writing is what I am now focusing on.

It just felt like time for a change. I need a fresh start – a place to write about running my business, writing, and how that ties in to living the lifestyle I want to live. So I am closing Web Career Girl down, and starting a new site in the next couple of weeks.

This site is called “The Internet Dream” (it’s still under construction).

An Apology For Subscribers

I want to end this with an apology. If you signed up to my newsletter here, promising blog updates and a free PLR article every week, I only delivered on part of that deal and I am sorry! I will switch you over to the newsletter for my new blog, but I’ll email a warning first. What I talk about will be a little different, so I don’t blame you at all if you unsubscribe.

Thanks for reading this blog for so long, especially if you’re still reading – and know that I still read your blogs even though I don’t comment so much any more (I keep meaning to change that!)

Ruth, I agree with you about all the SEO stuff. It can get very overwhelming trying to keep up with all the Google changes, etc. all the time. It’s better to focus on building a business around providing valuable content to your subscribers and customers, as well as building relationships with them. That’s the best way to build a long-term business.

  2. I completely understand your thinking behind not carrying on updating this site.
When you change direction, however small, you need everything around you to change with you and if you’ve still got bits hanging around that don’t fit in with what you have moved on to, they niggle away at the back of your mind, taking up mental time that could be better used.
I’ve got a similar conundrum with my blog – I’ve not got time to keep it updated and don’t actually do what it says I do anymore!
I love reading about your travel experiences and with the power of the internet, it is easy to keep following your escapades and I am sure your loyal followers will continue to want to hear from you and learn from you.
Carry on living your dream – well jel!
